#2 Symbolize American Culture

Symbolizes American culture for me is Barbie Doll.

Barbie Doll is a beautiful toy for fashionable all over the world about 50 years.  A lot of girls have one or more Barbie when they were a child.

At present, Barbie's footprint in 150 countries around the world, with an average every second in the world, there are three Barbie dolls are sold.
Barbie has been criticized for her top-heavy measurements and tiptoe feet that only can wear heels, but you've got to admit, dressed up or down, she always looks smashing.

One of the most common criticisms of Barbie is that she promotes an unrealistic idea of body image for a young woman, leading to a risk that girls who attempt to emulate her will become anorexic.

Although have many criticisms of Barbie, but Barbie really make a larger number of incomes for U.S.  Today, Barbie is not just a doll, a brand she represents.  We can see Barbie brand products all over the world, such as such as perfume, bags and so on.   Barbie not only is a girl an important component of life, but also is a symbol for America around the world.

The emergence of Barbie, the first people think of the sexy idol Marilyn Monroe.  Barbie doll reflects the American culture since Marilyn Monroe has long held ideal: tiny waist, full breasts, long legs, and long neck swan-like grace.  Therefore, from the birth day of Barbie dolls.  Barbie becomes a female spokesperson. Barbie is not only a beautiful modern woman; her but also is image a smart, independent and aggressive. To reflect on her image social development and women's progress.  In the 1960s, the Government encouraged women to work, Barbie put on the executive clothing.  Barbie soon became an astronaut when the first human flight to the moon.  Barbie does not teach us how to raise children to become dependent on her husband's woman, she taught us to be independent.  Barbie is a woman of her own, as long as she changes clothes, she can change herself.  This minute she was in the spotlight solo, the next minute she can become a driving spaceship pilot.

In my opinion, Barbie who embody in the mid-1960s American women began to move toward independent characteristic of the times.  She is representative image of American freedom, democracy and independent.

My Language Learner Identity

I was living in China when I was a child.  My first language is Chinese.  In China, except our first language Chinese, we are provision to learn English in school.  English is our second language.  So I've only learned Chinese and English.  Due to I usually used Chinese to study, thus I always used the Internet in Chinese.
When I immigrant to US I realize that my English not good and I need to improve it, but It is very hard for me.  Now I am learning English in LAGCC.  At the same time, I am also taking a Chinese class in here.  For me, use English to learn more difficult than use Chinese to learn.  No matter reading or writing my Chinese much better than English.  That is no doubt that cause Chinese is my first language.  I will use Chinese to comprehend what I read.  Therefore, I am difficult to understanding what the article means.  I think this is related with my grammar degree.
I am rarely writ email and letter to my family and my friend, because I feel make a telephone call is more convenient.  Assuredly I used Chinese in all.  I’m not used English to read every day, but I will used Chinese to read some news in my “Weibo”.  It’s a social network like Facebook and Twitter in China.  I prefer to use Weibo more than Facebook.  I think that’s why I come here 1 year ago and my English not improved too much.
